How has gossip affected you?

Gossip is an issue that nearly ended my marriage. The woman was whispering into my ear during an event about someone from my past, and 2 years later and a lot of heartache dealing with these issues, she had no clue the damage she did and all of the people who had to step in (including the Rabbi) to mend the problem. Today I saw her again at an event and she attempted to say hello to me but I gave her the cold shoulder. I am sure she wonders why, but aren't gossipers clueless in these issues? I wanted to cuss her out, but it wasn't appropriate.
